Grounds Person

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who thrives on attention to detail to join our Team as a Grounds keeper.

Position Purpose

 

The Grounds person will be responsible for maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of the outdoor areas of our site in Saintfield and private residences in Crossgar. This will include mowing, trimming, and watering grass as well as responsible for removing weeds, leaves, and other debris. The Grounds Person will also be responsible for maintaining the flowerbeds, shrubs and trees and may be required to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks as needed.

Grounds Keeper Main duties will include

 

  • Mowing and trimming lawns using a range of mowers and strimmer’s, keeping grass neat and well-manicured.
     

  • Planting and caring for flowers, shrubs, and trees. This will involve preparing the soil, planting, and watering new plants. Keeping existing plants healthy by regular trimming and pruning.
     

  • Watering plants and grass, using irrigation systems or manually as required.
     

  • Fertilising and treating plants to prevent diseases.
     

  • Removing and clearing weeds from flower beds, paths, and edges.
     

  • Maintaining water features and ponds.
     

  • Cleaning and maintaining walkways, driveways, and other exterior surfaces.
     

  • Performing basic repairs and maintenance that may be required such as raking leaves, removing debris, and performing minor repairs to fences, gates, and other structures.
     

  • Cleaning and maintaining all tools and equipment used in the course of your duties, such as power mowers, string strimmer’s and irrigation systems.
     

  • Liaising with owners to develop and implement a plan for maintaining grounds and reporting any issues.

Skills and qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should:

  • Have previous experience in a ground keepers’ role

  • Demonstrate good knowledge of landscaping, plant care, and safe operation of equipment and chemicals used.

  • Have good knowledge of Health and safety processes that are required for the role.

  • Have a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently and at times as part of a team.

  • Have good attention to detail and take pride in your work

  • Be physically fit as the job is outside and will involve manual handling tasks and heavy lifting.

  • Be able to work in a variety of weather conditions

  • Have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Good communication skills

  • You will have a valid driving licence
